Although there were approximately 600 black men at the Battle of Atlanta on July 22, 1864, only one is pictured in the Atlanta History Museum’s Cyclorama painting.
Blacks were not allowed to fight with guns, even those commanded by Gen. Sherman. They were mostly servants on the battlefield.

And the original Cyclorama depicting the Atlanta Civil War Battle was an entertainment piece produced by Germans, used to make it appear that the Confederates won the battle.
Fact: The present Cyclorama in Atlanta’s History Center in Buckhead was completed by C. D. Moody, owner of Atlanta Construction, Lithonia, Ga., an African American.
