Faith and Community Forum to be held by Cobb County, Ga. police

Leaders and staff from institutions of faith and all community members are invited to attend the Cobb County Police Department's 5th Faith and Community Forum. It will be held Monday, Sept. 10 from 9:30-11:30 a.m.  at the Cobb County Public Safety Training Center, 2109 Valor Drive, Marietta, Ga.

Community safety will be the focus as participants discuss crime and gangs, provide safety tips, and share how all can work together to respond. Participants should come prepared to ask questions, give input, and facilitate discussion.

Police Chief Mike Register has been hosting these forums in order to develop results-oriented relationships with the community, have candid discussions, partner to find solutions to issues and needs, and be a catalyst for improvement.

Please R.S.V.P. to Darcy Sibilsky at darcy.sibilsky@cobbcounty.org by Wednesday, Sept. 5.

  1. J says: Sounds like an event with great potential...however, I wonder if some will find the date and time of the event inconvenient? Monday morning may not be the greatest time for people that would interact and/or benefit the most.

  2. Tomi replies: Sorta gives impression that participants will be ministers, officers, and retired folks who probably don't need help but just something to do... how many folks showed up during 1st-4th forums, and when were they held? I think forums planned more for officers than community, when officers can attend while on duty, not when convenient for community participants.

You don't want to give the impression that police are just going through the motions of "attempting" to do community policing. Models for constructive community policing should be followed, and I'm sure there is research on how it can be successfully accomplished.

  3. Tomi replies: Additionally, why have it at the police training center?

Seems to me, that any weekday forum would naturally be less convenient for working people. As a retired “folk” looking for something to do, Tuesday is the day for routine breakfasts and lunches, Monday is a wakeup day.

    Keep it up.

    Love ya
