Changing face of politics: The Electoral College reapportionment

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there will be some changes to the Electoral College due to changes in population that could affect the 2012 presidential election. The change will be in the number of representatives in the Electoral College.

Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, South Carolina, Texas, Utah and Washington, gained votes due to reapportionment based on the 2010 Census. Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania lost votes.

According to Wikipedia, "In the political climate of 2011, this would give the Democratic Party a net loss of six electoral votes in states won by Obama in 2008. Conversely, the Republican Party will achieve a net gain of six electoral votes in states won by McCain."

In 2008, Barack Obama won by 365 electoral votes compared to John McCain's 173 votes.
