FIFA 13 hit at E3 - Blacks play video games but are not producing them

FIFA13 is evolving its EA Sports' Football Club. Created by an animation and gaming team in Canada, FIFA 13 is a soccer, or football, game which could become the number one sports game in the world. During the E3 convention today, the company announced that players will be able to receive merchandise from winning different levels of the game.

According to NewsOne, "African American and Latino youth play more video games per day than white youth."  In a study by University of Southern California Professor Dmitri Williams, it was found that, "only 10 percent of characters in video games are Black, and even then most are depicted as gangsters or athletes." The study also emphasizes that "diversity is lacking in the gaming industry."

E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo which held its first convention in 1995, is an annual meeting of video gamers taking place this year between June 5-7 in the Los Angeles Convention Center in the USA. Attending are 46,800 video game industry professionals, investor analysts, and retailers in the Entertainment Software Association (ESA).

E3 2012 will include participation by companies that are among leaders in social gaming such as Zynga, the world's leading provider of social game services and GREE, Japan's largest social and gaming network.

"This year's E3 represents the video game industry's full diversity and excitement, "said Rich Taylor, senior vice president of communications and industry affairs of the ESA.. "We are thrilled to have a growing number of social and casual games companies join our impressive list of exhibitors for E3 this year. We anticipate another packed house with exciting announcements and unveilings that will propel the industry's growth and drive news throughout the year."
