The best things in life are free!
While walking the dog, my husband came upon a fig tree in a neighbor's yard. The neighbor said he could take all the figs he could carry. What a wonderful gift! Figs are plentiful this time of year, but are expensive in grocery stores and farmer's markets.
According to Wikipedia, "Figs are one of the highest plant sources of calcium and fiber and rich in copper, manganese, magnesium, potassium, and vitamin K. Figs have a laxative effect and contain many antioxidants."
References to figs and fig trees are plentiful in the Bible, in both New and Old Testaments. The Olivet Discourse includes Jesus' descriptions of the end times associated with figs. Jesus curses a fig tree in the New Testament, but in the Gospel of Thomas, he advises that mountains can be moved if two people make peace with each other in a "single house."
